PASSIGNANO
Passignano sul Trasimeno lies in the Province of Perugia, on a promontory that juts out from the north-eastern shore of Lake Trasimeno.
It is one of the Province’s most important and charming tourist
towns. The ancient rock fortress that dominates it was built in the
Middle Ages, while it was already the 16th century when the
Renaissance-style San Rocco Church and the sanctuary of the Madonna
dell’Oliveto were constructed, designed, most likely, by Mariotto
Radi.
During the last days of July, Passignano sul Trasimeno
organises one of the area’s most fascinating popular events, the Palio
delle Barche, a partly on-land boat race that is an historical evocation
recalling the ancient rivalry between two noble families from Perugia:
the Baglioni and the Oddi.
